A goal out of nothing in first half injury time by former Rangers player Jukka Santala was all that separated the sides this evening in Hillerod, but in truth a one goal victory was the least which FC Nordsealland warranted from a game in which they looked the better side.
United made three changes to the side which started the friendly against Herfolge on Wednesday, with Ross Gardiner, Craig Conway and Lee Miller starting in place of Steven Robb, William Easton and Craig Brewster himself.
Nordsealland, managed by former Dundee and Celtic midfielder Morten Wieghorst, fielded a side which contained Ghanaian international Francis Dickoh in defence, and United States international Heath Pearce at left back. In attack, Jukka Santala - on loan at Partick Thistle from Rangers last season - partnered new signing Morten Nordstand, who had scored 79 goals in 101 games for Danish First Divison side Lyngby.
The Danish Superleague side started impressively, and United were on the rack for much of the first twenty minutes. In the first 30 seconds of the match, Andreasen played the ball out to Pearce, who played a return ball to the winger, whose cross was met low by Nordstrand, but Stillie got down well to block. Santala curled a shot over the bar in the third minute, before Gardiner had to be sharp to block Nordstrand's shot.
Santala wasted a good opportunity on 11 minutes after Stillie had parried Richter's cross, before the goalkeeper saved Richter's long range effort five minutes later.
United did well to weather the opening storm though, and began to come into the game, winning a number of set pieces in attacking areas. Cameron shot over the bar on 20 minutes, before Hunt saw his looping header saved by Christensen following a Robson free kick.
Christensen, on 35 minutes, was parrying a Robson free kick at his near post and was in the action yet again three minutes before half time, parrying Hunt's shot wide after the striker had broken the offside trap to receive a great pass from trialist right back Wilson.
Just as the game seemed to be heading for a goalless opening half, the Danes struck in injury time. A throw-in was met with a long ball forward, and Nordstrand's lay-off fell to Santala on the edge of the area, and the Finn's shot dipped over Stillie and into the net.
