YOUTHS LOSE TO ABERDEEN

14th April 2006

Having gone two behind after only fifteen minutes, the Dons got a third twenty minutes from the end to wrap things up.

Indeed, but for several fine saves by United keeper John Gibson, the defeat could have been greater. Ironically, it was following a great Gibson stop after five minutes that Aberdeen took the lead. In its aftermath Michael O'Byrne conceded a penalty from which Ashley McInnes scored.

Ten minutes later, Brian Neill rose above David Gray to score the second with a back post header. The introduction of Jordan Love at half time saw United come more into it the game. Although Gordon Pope fired just past from 30 yards, the visitors were still dangerous, Gibson making another brilliant save to deny Andy Bagshaw.

With twenty minutes left, Gibson was beaten again, David Donald scoring his sides' third at the back post.

On two other occasions, John Gibson made decent stops to keep the visitors at bay.

Just a couple of minutes from the end came United's best effort, David Gray clipping the top of the crossbar with a free-kick from 22 yards.
