"Best performance of the season" was how coach Tony Docherty described Tuesday afternoon's success over Killie's second string.
The side lined up in the usual 4-4-2 formation - Samson - Abbot, O'Byrne, Archibald, Gardiner - Duff, Cameron, Brebner, Easton - Goodwillie, trialist.
Apart from the first few minutes, and late on, by which time the points were in the bag, United dominated.
It was fitting that Stuart Abbot opened the scoring because he had an outstanding game. His goal came after only eight minutes when the defender sent a scorcher into the top corner from 25 yards to end his four-year goal drought!
David Goodwillie and Stuart Duff both came close to increasing that lead before Goodwillie celebrated his 17th birthday by scoring a second on the stroke of half time. It followed good link-up play between Grant Brebner and Ross Gardiner, but it was Willie Easton who set up Goodwillie who, in turn, took a touch before firing home from ten yards.
That ended the scoring, but United remained well on top with Greg Cameron, Ross Gardiner and David Goodwillie having chances to increase the lead.
Best the visitors could muster all afternoon came in the very last minute. Rory Loy got in behind the defence, but sub keeper Euan McLean - seeing his first action for almost four months - closed him down well and blocked the shot.
