RESERVES DRAW WITH LIVINGSTON

14th March 2006

Tony Docherty's young side did very well to hold a more experienced Livingston side at Tannadice this afternoon.

Only Stuart Duff and Alan Archibald had any first team experience and, including the subs, there were nine of the youth team on duty.

United lined up with a back four of Abbot, O'Byrne, Archibald and Gardiner.

The midfield was Andreoni, Duff, Cameron, Easton with David Goodwillie and Robbie Feeney up front.

The visitors were first to threaten when Noel Whelan was through on goal, but fired wide after 27 minutes.

Five minutes later Robert Snodgrass did likewise though he ought to have been hauled back for offside, but the linesman didn't flag and it would have counted.

Before the break however, Marco Andreoni hit the post and Ludovik Roy thwarted Stuart Duff with a fine save.

Whelan came closest for the visitors in the second half, but again failed to hit the target with a clear view of goal.

Indeed, if anybody was going to win in the latter stages, it was United who finished much the stronger.

During their late charge, David Goodwillie and Willie Easton both had chances for the home side, but were crowded out and so it finished goalless.

In the end, however, a draw was probably a fair enough result.

United: Samson, Abbot, Gardiner, Cameron, O'Byrne, Archibald, Andreoni, Duff, Goodwillie, Feeney, Easton. Subs not used: McLean, Pope, Burnett, McAleenan.
