RESERVES DRAW 2 -2 WITH DUNFERMLINE

27th September 2005

As the first team had done on Saturday, the Reserves also went behind after taking the lead, but their domination of the latter stages and a last minute strike by Jim McIntyre deservedly salvaged a point at Station Park, Forfar this afternoon.

Despite the blustery conditions, both teams served up a decent contest by keeping the ball on the deck as much as possible.

That was the route from which United's opener came after twelve minutes.

David Robertson rolled the ball through for Jim McIntyre to run on to, and having pushed the ball beyond Bryn Halliwell, the keeper brought him down in the box, though fortunately for the visitors escaped a booking, never mind a red-card.

Halliwell then blocked Billy Dodds's penalty, but the ball broke back to the Tannadice skipper to ram home the rebound.

That lead was short-lived because three minutes later Noel Hunt chested down a cross from Davie Muir to sweep the ball under the advancing McLean from ten yards.

Jim McIntyre spurned a chance for United to regain the lead four minutes later, heading a Callaghan cross straight into Halliwell's arms.

However, on 27 minutes, it was the visitors who forged in front when Nicky Phinn stooped to head home after a Craig Wilson cross had been flicked on by Noel Hunt.

United twice went close to equalising just before the break from dangerous Callaghan crosses, Derek Howie almost putting through his own goal and Peter Canero firing over with his shot on the turn.

The visitors opened the second half brightly with substitute Chris Smith curling a shot narrowly past and David Muir heading just over.

But United went on to dominate the second half and particularly the latter stages with Greg Cameron and Jim McIntyre hitting wind-assisted strikes just over.

And just when it looked as though time had run out on the home side, Jim McIntyre curled a left shot into the bottom corner from 30-yards for the equaliser.
