Dundee United manager Gordon Chisholm and Dundee FC counterpart Jim Duffy got their hands on their first silverware of the new season today when they unveiled the Discovery Cup.
The club bosses joined together on Dundee Law to unveil the City of Discovery Cup, the new trophy they will jointly contest against English giants Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers later this month.
The inaugural City of Discovery Cup is an innovative four-game pre-season tournament taking place over the weekend of July 23-24 at Tannadice and Dens.
The competition begins at Tannadice at 1pm on Saturday July 23 with an enticing all-English encounter between the Owls and Wolves preceding the first, and perhaps only, derby of the coming season. Each game will be played to a finish with a penalty shoot-out decider if the teams cannot be separated in regulation time.
The action switches to Dens Park on Sunday where a third / fourth place match will serve as an appetiser to the City of Discovery Cup Final between the two top teams of the tournament.
On both days, fans will have a chance to play for their club, in front of a packed stadium, during the period between the professional games. Details were included in last week's ArabNeWs newsletter and Dundee United fans should register their interest by emailing

Dark Blues boss Jim Duffy said, "We are really looking forward to this event as it promises to be a great showcase for football in the city no matter your allegiance.
"It also gives us the chance to pit our wits against some quality opposition. The promise of an early derby is also guaranteed to add spice to this high profile event."
Tangerines boss Gordon Chisholm said, "The Discovery Cup promises to be a great curtain raiser to the season for the fans and the team.
"While it goes without saying that the derby will be eagerly awaited and generate great excitement, playing against Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday - both quality teams - will also attract the fans and provide a real competitive test for both clubs."
Lord Provost John Letford, City of Discovery Campaign chairperson, said the Cup would provide a terrific pre-season spectacle.
He said, "The collective pulse will be racing from the very first kick of the opening match and that excitement will only build. The clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves and the Dundee derby are mouth watering prospects for all the fans to savour."
Individual day tickets and discounted weekend passes for the City of Discovery Cup will be on sale shortly at the club shops in Dundee. A day admission ticket covering both matches costs
