Tony Docherty lined up the side for the reserve fixture against Hibs in a 3-5-2 formation with Colgan in goal behind Abbot, Gardiner and Dodds. Playing wide on the right was Callaghan and on the left Easton with a middle three of Burnett, Cameron and Robertson. The Trinidadian pair of Samuel and Scotland led the attack.
In an entertaining match the team did very well against a more experienced Hibs sides. Seven of the United starting eleven had played the previous evening in the SFA Youth Cup semi final and another two of the semi final side came on after the break. In the end 0-0 was a fair result and the manager and coaching staff were pleased with the overall performance from the side.
In the first half United created several openings and Roberson, Samuel and Scotland all came close but the outstanding player of the first half was Callaghan who fired in some great cross balls to feed the attack. Hibs had chances but were unable to find the net.
After the break, the pattern was very much the same with plenty of action but neither side finding the net and United understandably began to tire as the game drew to a conclusion. Goodwillie came closest to grabbing the points for United with a great header in the dying minutes.
