For this afternoon's match against Livingston Reserves at The City Stadium, United fielded a mixture of youth and experience with Colgan in goal behind a back four of Burnett, Kenneth, Gardiner and Easton. The midfield quartet consisted of McLaren, Cameron, Holmes and Robson with Scotland and Samuel up front.
United created few chances in the first half with their best effort coming mid way through from a Robson shot that Meldrum touched on to the bar. The home side took the lead just before the half hour mark when McPake stabbed home. Holmes had a chance to level just before the break but he was crowded out.
In the second period Livingston made a quick impact when former Tannadice favourite Craig Easton netted from the edge of the area within two minutes and this was followed by a series of substitutions by United with Robertson replacing Burnett, Callaghan coming on for Robson and finally Andrew replacing Holmes. But the Tangerines failed to have any real effect and fell further behind to a penalty by hand with twenty minutes left. There was no way back for a below standard United and it ended with a 3-0 win for the home side.
