Without Garry Kenneth and Greg Cameron who both travelled with the first team squad today, the Youth side faced joint top side Motherwell this morning at North End Park. Tony Docherty lined up a 4-4-2 formation with Euan McLean in goal behind a back four of Stuart Abbot, Gregg Burnett, Ross Gardiner and William Easton. In midfield were Barry Callaghan, Nicky McDonald, David Robertson and Kieron McAleenan with David Goodwillie and Joe Andrew up front.
The first half saw very few chances created by either side and the young Tangerines did not play to the standard that has seen them remain in the top four of the Youth League for much of the season. After a goalless first half the team improved after the break and might have won the game but just when it looked like a share of the points, the visitors snatched a late goal for a 1-0 win.
After the match Tony Docherty was of course disappointed but still upbeat when he said, "We were looking to gain some ground on Motherwell who were just a couple of places above us and four points in front before today but the boys were not at their best in the first half. They didn't play as we know they can and we were a bit fortunate maybe to go in level at half time but in the second half there was an improvement but it didn't go our way and we ended up losing. It's disappointing but we still have a long way to go in this league yet."
