United lined up in the usual 4-4-2 formation with Hirschfeld in goal behind a back four of Abbot, McCracken, Kenneth and Gardiner. In midfield, Callaghan and Cameron joined the experienced Kerkar and Duff with a strike pairing of Samuel and McDonald.
United were the better side in the first half and went ahead from a Samuel strike after great work by McDonald released Cameron who played the striker in. Kerkar fired home to make it 2-0 after a one-two with Duff. Dunfermline pulled one back from the spot through Campbell before half time but Samuel scored again to restore United's two goal lead with a good finish after he outstripped the home defence before slotting home.
After the break United continued their excellent first half form and Kerkar hit the post before he and Duff combined with another one-two to create the fourth goal, with Duff netting this time. The Pars were reduced to ten men for the last ten minutes but it ended 4-1 to United.
After the match Tony Docherty praised his side when he said. "That was our first match for about three weeks and our last before the winter break and I am very pleased with the way we went about our business to record a well deserved and comprehensive victory. Again I have to give great credit to our young players who are doing well in both the Youth and Reserve leagues. We also had some of the first team lads in today and they showed the right attitude to get the result."
