McCALL PLEDGES FUTURE TO DUNDEE UNITED

11th May 2004

Dundee United has announced that Ian McCall and his management team of Gordon Chisholm and Tony Docherty have agreed two-year contract extensions, securing their services to the Club until June 2008.

The announcement follows news of other contract extensions for new player/coach Billy Dodds, together with players Alan Archibald and Jim McIntyre reinforcing the Club's aims of stability, security and ambition. Further contract revisions, in line with the Club's business plan to ally long term job security with enhanced performance rewards, are expected to be concluded shortly.

Chairman Eddie Thompson said, "I am delighted to have secured the services of the youngest and brightest management team in Scottish football for a further four years, until June 2008. Ian and his team have met all of their targets this year and the improvement in the playing side is there for all to see. He has done exactly the sort of job that I recruited him to do and it's important that this, plus all of the groundwork being done with the youth and U21 players, is followed through on a long term basis.

"I have also worked closely with Ian reviewing and setting future budgets. In difficult circumstances he has been fully supportive and worked hard to ensure that the interests of the Club, and the players, were protected. We have made no secret of the fact that we are not immune from the financial pressures affecting Scottish football and the changed circumstances that we all now find ourselves in. We recognised some time ago that we had to ensure that preventive measures were implemented to avoid potential problems in the future. Ian and his team have fully understood this and we have tried, successfully I think, to combine the need for financial stability with our ambitions for the future of the Club."

Manager Ian McCall said, "I am pleased to pledge my future to Dundee United. The prospect of longer term job security, combined with the need to build on the progress made in all areas this year, is hugely attractive especially in these uncertain financial times.

"I have major ambitions for this Club and am encouraged that these are shared by the Chairman. We both know that costs must be controlled and reduced but equally we both want the team to continue to improve and challenge at the very top. This was an important part in my decision to stay for another four years."
