NEIL GLEN

14th May 2004

It is with great sadness that Dundee United reports the sudden death of Neil Glen, Chairman of ArabTRUST and close friend and supporter of the Club.

Neil Glen was a life-long and well-known Dundee United supporter and was active in many supporters' groups over the years. In addition to being a prominent member of the United for Change group, he was a member of the Federation of Dundee United Supporters' Clubs. He recently became Chairman of ArabTRUST, the Dundee United Supporters' trust, an organisation which he had long campaigned for. He was a strong advocate of supporters' rights and held strong and well argued views on many aspects of the game. His advice was both respected and valued by the Club and will be sorely missed.

Neil was not only a friend to the Club, he and his family were also close personal friends to many of those involved with the Club and had been for many years. This item is particularly painful to write. All of our thoughts are with Marlyn and the family.

Dundee United Chairman Eddie Thompson said Mr Glen's death was a "very sad loss" for all connected with the Club and a tragedy for his family. Mr Thompson added, "Neil supported United for many years and during that time he always spoke his mind and always looked out for the best interests of the Club.

"Neil was involved with me for several years firstly through United for Change and recently through his involvement with ArabTRUST. I regarded Neil as a personal friend of mine and this news has come as a great shock. I would like to offer our condolences to Neil's family at this traumatic time".

As a mark of respect, players of Dundee United and Celtic will wear black armbands during Sunday's SPL game."

Neil's funeral takes place on Friday, 21 May at 12.00 noon at Balgay Church, Lochee Road, with the internment thereafter at Birkhill Cemetery at 1.15pm.
