DERBY DAY BECKONS

10th April 2004

The third derby of season 2003-04 gets under way on Sunday 11th April. United's players will be keen to make amends for the poor display against Aberdeen last week, the result of which left the Terrors still needing points to make absolutely certain of a top six finish. The clubs have met each other on league business on 118 previous occasions and United have by far the better of the exchanges with 57 wins to Dundee's 36. United also hold the balance of wins in both the Scottish Cup and League Cup.

The first meeting of the current campaign ended in a 1-1 draw. Dundee took the lead from the spot in the first half but United equalised through Jim McIntyre. In the return at Dens in January it was United' s turn to get the penalty and go in front but two second half goals gave the home side the points. Since then United have gradually pulled away from their near neighbours and now have an eight point advantage and sit four places higher in the league. But form books are no indicator to success in these encounters and it will take a committed showing from Ian McCall's men to get the win that will send Arabs home happy.

The match is one of the most eagerly anticipated highlights of the season and it would be a brave man who would predict the outcome. In Scottish League meetings between United and Dundee there have been some enormously entertaining games over the years and Sunday should be no different.

Sunday's game is of course all ticket and kick off is 3.00 pm and with a large attendance expected it is to everyone's advantage to get there early.

On Sunday, the ticket office will be open for sales from 10.00am - 12.00 noon and the Souvenir Shop in Victoria Road from 12.00 noon to kick-off.
