Dundee United's Under-19 squad travelled to East End Park, Dunfermline, this afternoon for a friendly match against the Fife side. As he did in the recent friendly fixture against Motherwell, Tony Docherty took the opportunity to put some of the younger players from the Under-16 and Under-17 sides through their paces. There were also a couple of trialists on show.
The side played in a 4-4-2 formation, with a starting eleven containing Gavin McCann in goal behind a back four of Stuart Abbot, Gary Kenneth, Ross Gardiner and a trialist. In midfield, Barry Callaghan, Eddie Smith, Steven Bell and William Easton started, with a trialist up front alongside Nicky McDonald.
In the first half United had the better of the play and went in a goal ahead at the interval after Callaghan (pictured) scored to cap a great performance.
In the second period a number of substitutions were made and David Robertson, Kenny Jarvis, Aaron Conway, Joseph Andrew and Gregg Burnett all came on, as did another trialist and three more players from the younger ranks at Tannadice. The Pars equalised from the penalty spot and although the young Tangerines totally dominated the latter stages of the game they had only a Steven Bell penalty to add to their tally for a 2-1 win.
"There were a lot of positives to take from this match," Tony said after the game "and I was delighted not only with the result but also with the performance from the boys."
