UNDER-19s v CELTIC (FRIENDLY) RESULT

12th December 2003

With the Under-19 League in winter break, the Club has organised a number of friendly matches and the first of these took place against Celtic today at the Barrowfield Training Ground in Glasgow.

Tony Docherty took the opportunity to introduce several younger players to the Under-19 arena and, against a very strong Celtic side, the coach was pleased with the performance from his team, despite losing 2-1. "I was very pleased with a positive performance from the boys", Tony said. "Celtic fielded a team with most of their regular Under-19 players while we gave a game to lads aged fifteen, sixteen and seventeen and they did exceptionally well. It was a good all round display and we can see that our younger lads are developing and looking good for the future."

In goal United played the Under-16 keeper Stephan McCurly and at right back was Under-15, Greg Cameron with Kenny Jarvis on the left. The central pairing was Andy Hunter and Under-16 player Garry Kenneth. Michael Lau, Eddie Smith, Steven Bell and William Easton made up the midfield with Under-15 forward Frazer Roy paired up front with Nicky McDonlad.

United took the lead when Eddie Smith (pictured) scored but Celtic pulled one back before half time. In the second half the young Tangerines had chances to regain the lead but were caught out with a late goal from the more experienced Celtic side.
