UNITED SHARE POINTS WITH PARTICK

23rd December 2003

The side to face Partick Thistle tonight had two changes with Danny Griffin in for Chris Innes and Charlie Miller on from the start in place of Barry Robson. This was a landmark event for Paul Gallacher (pictured) making his 100th first team appearance.

The first half could not really be claimed by either team, as chances were few and far between although the Jags finished the stronger side. United's best opportunity came from a free-kick by Alan Archibald but Arthur in the Thistle goal saved well. The visitor's best chance also came from a free kick, by Fleming, which Gallacher did well to tip over the bar.

The second half saw changes in the Tangerines line-up and a succession of opportunities were presented but the Thistle defence kept United out, Arthur in particular playing well and making a string of crucial saves. Dodds and Paterson were thwarted by the keeper early in the half and later Samuel was twice denied and McCracken had a powerful header saved. Partick had fewer chances and Gallacher did well to save one-handed from Thomson when the visitors broke forward.

United: Gallacher, Wilson, Griffin, McCracken, Archibald, Kerr, McInnes, Miller (J Paterson 46), McLaren (Samuel 46), Dodds, McIntyre.
