United earned a battling 1-1 draw this afternoon at Tannadice against visitors Kilmarnock. Optimism was high amongst the substantial home support following two wins and a draw in the Tangerines' three previous matches however Manager Ian McCall was restricted in his team selection by injuries to Scott Paterson, Jim Paterson and Barry Robson.
The first half produced no goals but with less than twenty minutes remaining in the second period Chris Boyd put the visitors one up when he got the slightest of touches to a Fulton through ball into the box. In a game which looked as if a single counter would perhaps be enough Kilmarnock may have thought they had notched a winner but the Tangerines stuck back within two minutes.
Andy McLaren was the scorer against his old club when he found himself with space at the far post to volley home after a Miller cross fell for him from a poor Shields attempted clearance. In the last fifteen minutes United went all out for a winner but Kilmarnock held several attacks at bay to hang on for a point.
