UNDER-19S LOSE AFTER GOING AHEAD

29th August 2003

The Dundee United Under-19 side travelled to the West coast today to play Rangers Under-19s at Murray Park. The visitors took a one-goal first half advantage through Andy Hunter who knocked in a rebound from the keeper after Kenny Jarvis saw his free-kick parried. Both Jarvis and Aaron Conway (pictured) had shots cleared off the line just as the interval approached.

The young Tangerines increased their lead early in the second half when Hunter passed from his own half and found Conway free on the right. The striker then cut inside before firing a low drive into the net. However, after the hour mark United eased off and allowed the Glasgow side back into the game and they pulled one back through Gebbie who headed home with fifteen minutes left. McLean then brought Rangers level from a corner with ten minutes left and, finally, five minutes later Adam curled a free-kick over the wall and into the net for the winner.

After losing for the first time at Under-19 level this season coach Tony Docherty was obviously disappointed with the outcome and felt that his side lost a game which they should have won.

United: McCann, Hunter, W Easton (Craig 64), Abbot, Anderson, Gardiner, Bell, Smith, Jarvis, Conway (Robertson 87), Andrew (Callaghan 53).
