SUPPORTERS’ TRUST INVESTS IN COMMUNITY

23rd July 2003

ArabTRUST, the Dundee United Supporters’ Trust, has donated a four figure sum to provide the Dundee United Community Initiative with a set of twelve goals to be used in a wide range of community activities. In addition to being used to complement existing school, festival and holiday programmes, the additional goals will allow the initiative to set up community football centres where goalposts are not currently available. It is also planned to use the goals to expand the community initiative to provide greater facilities for girls’ football and to introduce schemes for young people with learning difficulties. Gavin Levey, SFA Community Coach at Dundee United said “It is great to have Dundee United supporters backing our community initiatives in this way through the work of the Trust. Many young people in Dundee will benefit from the generous donation of these goals, some of which are already in use at our extensive summer programme. This donation will allow our programme to develop further social inclusion projects, which I know are important to both Dundee United and the Supporters’ Trust.” Gary Torbet, a Trust representative commented, “We are delighted to be able to support Dundee United, Gavin and the local community in this way. Investing in the community is one of the principal aims of the Trust. The goals have been bought with supporters’ money and we hope this is the first step in developing an excellent partnership with Dundee United in supporting Youth & Community initiatives.” ArabTRUST, launched in February this year, now has over 400 members and is preparing for its first Annual General Meeting in September. As well as raising money to secure a shareholding in the Club and, in the long term an elected representative to the Board of the Club, the Trust has at its core the development of young players for Dundee United and developing football provision for the community it serves.
