In front of a crowd of almost 6,500 spectators this evening, United defeated Everton 1-0 with a goal from Collin Samuel in the first five minutes of the second half. Following a first half in which the match was evenly balanced, United turned on the pressure and could have been two ahead. Everton in turn came more into the game and could have equalised in the last few minutes with a fearsome shot which ricocheted off the post and went out, an effort that nine out of ten times would have found the net. A good win for Dundee United, a good attendance and an evening of special significance in that it commemorated the opening of the "Jerry Kerr Stand"
