UNITED EQUALISE THROUGH MAGNIFICENT KERR STRIKE

18th July 2003

Dundee United drew 1-1 with German Bundesliga second division outfit Wacker Burghausen on Thursday night in their first pre-season tour match played at Bergham. The Tangerines fielded seven new signings with Bullock in goal and played in 3-5-2 position. Burghausen started the stronger side, also having the advantage of playing their sixth pre-season friendly. Bullock did well in denying Wacker's Morrocan frontman Youssef Mokhtari in eight minutes. Whilst United created some opportunities through Paterson and Jim McIntyre, they failed to take the lead. In the last third of the half, the impartial deemed Bullock cause for a penalty as, following a shot on goal, the keeper had only parried the ball and, rushing to it, challenged Wacker's Reisinger who subsequently went down. Matthias Orum put the Germans one goal ahead from the spot.

In the second half, United were fighting for an equaliser and became more dominant pressurising the Wacker goal. The game at this point was characterised by substitutions, and latterly a 10 men United side as Robson had to come off injured. It took until two minutes before end of play that the Tangerines clinched a deserved share of the spoils through a magnificent 25-yard strike by Kerr (pictured).

United: Bullock, Griffin, J Paterson (Duff 46), McInnes (c) (Easton 65) McCracken (Miller 46) Archibald (Bollan 60) Kerr, S Paterson (Wilson 60), Scotland (Coyle 60) McIntyre (Samuel 46) Robson.
