Dundee United inflicted a comprehensive 5-0 beat on Airdrie United at New Broomfield with all the goals coming in the second half.
In the first half United struggled a little to find any real rhythm although Miller fired over the top whilst both Samuel and McIntyre upfront could find no route through to goal. In midfield McInnes and Miller ran the show with the former in particular catching the eye and Kerr showed some good skill on the ball. Robson produced glimpses of smart ball play while the defensive partnership of Griffin, S Paterson and Archibald had a few nervy moments. In goal Gallacher had little to contend with but handled well.
As promised, Dodds was introduced in the second half and almost immediately had an impact netting from close range within five minutes. McIntyre followed up but the goal must go to Dodds.
United's second was a cheeky free-kick slotted in by McInnes as the Airdrie defence dallied over preparing their wall. From an indirect free-kick six yards out Mark Kerr put the visitors three up when he fired high into the roof of the net from a Miller lay-off. Coyle was next to get his name on the score sheet as he fired home from a J Paterson corner. But the best was saved for last as Scotland ghosted past three Airdrie defenders before beating the keeper.
