DUNDEE UNITED 0 - ABERDEEN 2

24th May 2003

United boss Ian McCall was forced into a number of changes through injuries, suspension and players leaving the Club. Of last week's starting eleven at Firhill, Jim Lauchlan, Charlie Miller, Derek Lilley and Jim Paterson were unavailable and were replaced by David McCracken, Mark Wilson, Danny Ogunmade and Billy Dodds. In a selection filled with young players Youth squad members Stephen McGowan and Aaron Conway were on the bench joined by Stephen O'Donnell and Jamie McCunnie with Paul Jarvie taking the place of injured Paul Gallacher. Aberdeen, with a sizeable travelling support for the last game of the season, fielded a more experienced side but they too had a number of younger players in the squad.

The first half was a fairly drab affair with neither side making much impact on the opposing defence and chances were few. In the second half, McGowan came on for his first team debut in place of Billy Dodds and later Conway also made his debut. It was Aberdeen who took the lead early in the second period through Mackie and five minutes later the visitors scored a second as Combe let a shot from Tosh slip through his hands. United had opportunities to salvage something but Duff (pictured) and Conway both missed when the opportunities arose.
