In tonight's Under-21 match United fielded an experienced side containing eight players who have turned out for the first team.
In the early stages of the game there was little to choose between the two teams, and all that separated the sides at half time was a goal by Robb for the visitors. He managed to stab home a rebound after a Jablonski effort had been tipped on to the post by Paul Jarvie. Dundee were relying on a long ball tactic. United's best chance of the first half came from a cut back from the young Tangerines man of the match, Danny Ogunmade, but O'Donnell's powerful low drive was deflected for a corner.
Half Time
United 0 Dundee 1
In the second half United were the better side but could not break down a stubborn Dundee defence. Ogunmade, Easton and O'Donnell all tried their luck and the best chance of the half fell to O'Donnell, but his shot was saved by Langfield and the United attacker hit the rebound into the side netting. Paul Jarvie was troubled very little in the second period with only one save which he took easily.
Overall, United deserved to take something from this game but poor finishing and bad luck conspired to thwart their efforts. However, several players, including new signing Russell Latapay, have gained from the match practice and with another Under-21 game scheduled for Wednesday, United may again field several experienced players for the same reason.
