COCA COLA CUP FEVER

27th February 2003

Dundee United's astroturf facility at Gussie Park was venue for the Coca Cola 7-a-sides Cup today. Grenville Dawson of the Scottish Schools Football Association was in charge of proceedings at the all-weather pitch and commented: "Today was a great success. We had twelve teams of first year secondary school level from Dundee and Angus of whom six progressed to the next round. Amongst the winners were Baldragon and St Johns from Dundee and Carnoustie High, Montrose Academy, Forfar Academy and Arbroath High School from Angus. The children very much enjoyed the event, and tomorrow morning we have the girls' competition to look forward to."

Sponsored by Coca Cola, the Scottish Schools Football 7-a-side tournament has become one the UK's largest schools football competitions and has attracted over 3,500 players last season. Designed to encourage an active lifestyle in a fun-environment, the event is open to all secondary schools and coached by ex-professional football players. The winners of the four stages of the competition win an overseas trip to a top European Club to participate in the FIFA International Soccer Academy.
