Earlier today, the Dundee United launch of the Scottish Football Association Schools' Programme took place, which is supported by McDonalds. This nation-wide four-year community programme targets Primary 5 children and is being driven by SFA & Dundee United Community Coach, Gavin Levey. This new initiative, which begins on Monday will involve 15 of Dundee's primary schools. Through the course of the school year, each Primary 5 class will receive 16 hours of curricular football coaching from SFA Coaches. United captain Danny Griffin showed his support for the new project at Tannadice Park this morning and met up with some of the youngsters that will be participating in this exciting programme. Community Coach Gavin Levey explains: "This is an excellent opportunity for primary schools to receive 16 hours of quality coaching free of charge. The SFA/McDonalds schools programme also involves teaching staff from each school involved, who will soon be attending a Level One coaching course in an effort to continue the development of the game in the school." This project promises to provide the chance for both boys and girls to participate in football in a fun and enjoyable environment and a total of 560 Primary 5 pupils per week will be involved throughout the city.
