UNITED SUFFER AT EAST END PARK

4th December 2002

Manager Paul Hegarty was looking for a similar performance to that given in the second half against Aberdeen four days previously.

UNITED: GALLACHER, WILSON, LAUCHLAN, MCCRACKEN, PATERSON, EASTON, MILLER, LILLEY, MCINTYRE, HAMILTON, THOMPSON SUBS: COMBE, SMART, DUFF, CARSON, CUMMINGS.

DUNFERMLINE: STILLE, DAIR, SKERLA, THOMSON, NICHOLSON, CRAWFORD, BREWSTER, WALKER, KILGANNON, BULLEN, WILSON SUBS: RUITENBEEK, HAMPSHIRE, MCGROARTY, DEMPSEY, MCGARTY.

Within the first five minutes, United were already behind. Jimmy Calderwood's side were clearly intent on taking the game to their visitor's. They got the ball out wide quickly and had men racing into the United box looking for a whipped in cross and it was from one of these early attacks that former Tangerine hero Craig Brewster put the home side ahead.

Manager Hegarty immediately pulled Paterson back reshaping his defence to a back four. The goal stung United into action and they created a couple of good chances but there were no takers as the ball spun across the face of the Dunfermline goal. Hopes of a fightback were dented when Brewster converted a penalty for his and Dunfermline's second goal in the 37th minute.

Walker made it three when he hit the Tangerine net from a Kilgannon cross three minutes later.

HALF TIME: DUNFERMLINE 3 UNITED O

A Nicholson deflected shot put Dunfermline four ahead ten minutes after the interval before Jim McIntyre shot United's only goal on the hour mark. United dominated the last half hour but as with the second half against Aberdeen, they could not add to their single goal despite creating a number of excellent chances.
