United's disappointing run of results continued with a 1-2 defeat at Easter Road this afternoon in the Bank of Scotland Premier League match versus Hibernian. In front of an attendance of over 9,000 including some 500 United supporters, Alex Smith's side dominated the opening and closing periods of the match hitting the bar on two occasions in the final ten minutes but still managed to return to Tannadice empty handed.
The Manager started the match with a new central defensive partnership of McGowne and McCracken with Jim Lauchlan dropping to the bench. Lauchlan found himself accompanied on the bench by Charlie Miller.
The first period of the match was somewhat scrappy however United created a couple of excellent chances to open the scoring and their failure to take them cost the visitors dearly when O'Connor took advantage of hesitant defending to fire Hibs ahead.
Bobby Williamson's side took the match to United from this point onwards and could easily have gone in at half time ahead by a few goals.
HALF-TIME HIBERNIAN 1 UNITED 0
United made no changes at the break and within minutes of the restart found themselves further behind as the Tangerine defence stood off Murray allowing him to fire a powerful shot past Gallacher.
The visitors immediately responded by bringing on Lauchlan and Miller. By the hour mark, United began to take control with Miller (pictured) controlling the flow of the match. The introduction of Carson brought an almost immediate return when he got in behind the home defence and cut the ball inside for Steven Thompson to fire the ball home for a United goal.
From then on in, the Tangerines pounded the Hibernian defence hitting the bar twice however they could not find a deserved equaliser and fell to their fourth consecutive league defeat.
