Reflecting on United's 3-2 closed door win over Motherwell yesterday, Paul Hegarty was satisfied with the benefits of the match. Speaking this morning he said: "With no first team matches this weekend, this was an excellent opportunity to keep the lad's match fitness levels up. We had five players on international duty and Motherwell had three. I used seventeen players during the game and they used eighteen. We also had Danny Griifin out through injury. Danny had reported for international duty with Northern Ireland but returned to Tannadice having seen their Doctor in London."
"The players have this weekend off but they have put in an excellent weeks work and were in on Wednesday, often their midweek day off. Following the break they will be back in on Monday to begin preparation for the Livingston match next Saturday."
"We have a young team in action on Sunday. We are playing Glenrothes Juniors at 1pm in a Testimonial match at Warout Stadium."
