Another superb performance from Steven Thompson in yesterday's 3-1 win over Canada at Easter Road appears to have consolidated the United striker's position in Berti Vogt's Scotland team. Partnering Stevie Crawford up front, the national side's three goals came from both front players with Tommo hitting the second and assisting with the third.
The Paisley born hitman has moved onto seven international caps and looks set to move towards double figures over the next set of matches. Paul Hegarty commented on his front man's two performances over four days: "Stephen had an excellent match against Iceland. He played with maturity and commitment for the entire match. Then last night against Canada he scored a superb goal. We are delighted with his performances over the last few months and the aim for him now must be to demonstrate that he can not only maintain his standard of performance but to improve on it."
Paul then had praise for his keeper Paul Gallacher. "I am very happy that he was capped again, this time for the entire game. I am also delighted that he was on a winning side. Paul really deserves his success. He has worked so hard over the last couple of years and I hope that this will be the start of a long career for him at this level."
