FOCUS ON LESSONS LEARNT

19th August 2002

In an interview held today, Manager Alex Smith was determined to put Saturday's 5- 0 mauling by Celtic behind him and to start focusing on the next two forthcoming home matches. Reviewing the team's defeat at Parkhead, the Tangerines' boss stated: "Saturday's result and performance was extremely disappointing. Whilst Celtic is an exceedingly strong and powerful team, it is very disappointing for any manager or coach to see his team concede easy goals from unforced errors. Celtic is the type of team that don't need much encouragement to play with amazing pace on a higher level - naturally, that makes it very difficult to contend with them. I was very disappointed for all our travelling supporters and for all those fans listening to the radio. I would like to reassure them that everybody at the Club is working very hard to bring us again to the level that was expected from United a few years back. What we have to do now is show strength and character and come back to achieve a home win on Sunday coming and go forward from that applying all the lessons learnt from the Celtic game."
